TIBCO BusinessEvents™ is a powerful CEP system that allows users to simultaneously correlate multiple events and then visualize and analyze patterns within their business rules. The insight users get from the patterns helps them to predetermine or predict what will occur next in a series of events, make appropriate decisions, and take action.
TIBCO’s Challenge
Before incorporating Tom Sawyer
Visualization, BusinessEvents was able to create and analyze events. However, it was difficult for users to visualize the entire structure of the rules they designed and their relationships to the events that had been configured. There was no user interface that could give an overall picture, which lessened the user experience. In addition, even after the rules triggered and actions were taken, they could not visually represent how events, processes, and outcomes were interrelated. Consequently, it was difficult for users to see and understand the structures of complex events.
According to Chris Martha, Director of Product Management and Strategy of TIBCO Software, "Companies often had a number of development groups defining and submitting their own rules to the central project without knowledge of the rules other groups were building. This meant larger projects could become extremely complex very quickly. It was difficult to see if certain events would trigger other events or what the end result of the whole project was. The visualization piece was very important for complex projects."
Choosing Tom Sawyer
TIBCO’s customers began to request that a visualization component be included in BusinessEvents to display the data and connections, which led to TIBCO’s search for a visualization product to integrate into Business
Events.
After researching several companies,
TIBCO ultimately selected Tom
Sawyer Software due to their expert

TIBCO engineers in a prompt professional manner during the evaluation process,
ensuring a good user experience with the product. |
The Tom Sawyer Solution
The Tom Sawyer Software Visualization product delivers sophisticated component technology that manages, reveals, and displays graphical, customized views of relational data, making it possible to immediately identify relationships, connections, and emerging patterns within data, which TIBCO required to be integrated into BusinessEvents.
Tom Sawyer worked with TIBCO to help set priorities for the integration. TIBCO wanted concrete recommendations towards how to improve customer experience with the new visualization component and also took advantage of Tom Sawyer’s consulting services to integrate the product into BusinessEvents. With the direction of Tom Sawyer’s consulting services, TIBCO was able to complete the integration ahead of schedule, saving time and cost while meeting a very aggressive release date.

BusinessEvents now helps TIBCO’s customers gain a better understanding of their business rules to visualize the relationships and dependencies in their complex events. Tom Sawyer also enables TIBCO to demonstrate BusinessEvents more effectively by presenting prospects with concrete visual examples of projects.
Explained Martha, "The key to selling any product is being able to visually demonstrate it to prospects and customers. Tom Sawyer Visualization is a helpful selling tool for BusinessEvents. It definitely makes our product easier to demonstrate, and shows the larger picture to customers."
In addition, TIBCO BusinessEvents now provides a unique
business user interface for CEP that enables business users to write rules in their domain of expertise.
