Berkeley, CA, February 4, 2000—Tom Sawyer Software, the leading vendor of scalable and incremental graph layout technology, today announced that Cisco Systems is standardizing its common network topology architecture around Tom Sawyer Software's Graph Layout Toolkit for Java and Graph Editor Toolkit for Java technology.
As Cisco Systems builds its new network management applications in Pure Java, it leverages the Graph Layout Toolkit for Java and the Graph Editor Toolkit for Java to provide scalable and incremental network topology management, layout, and visualization services for each new application. Applications with existing topology services have also been retrofitted with the more capable Tom Sawyer Software network topology technologies. This standardization results in higher quality products while saving Cisco Systems significant recurring engineering expenses and eliminating the need for duplicate network topology engineering efforts.
This standardization testifies to both the ease of integration, the flexible APIs, and the engineering quality of the Tom Sawyer Software technology. These existing and new Cisco networking applications all have different topology needs, yet Tom Sawyer Software's mature technology is evolved enough to support all these teams.
Tom Sawyer Software's network layout technology is highly reliable and capable of displaying large networks with thousands of devices. The Graph Layout Toolkit for Java supports the detection and display of bus, tree, hierarchical, ring, parallel link, nested, star, and mesh topologies. These topologies are readily portrayed with scalable and mature layout technology. Tom Sawyer Software's Graph Editor Toolkit for Java has superior graphics rendering throughput and supports the demanding alarm processing throughput requirements of Cisco's largest customer networks.
"We are pleased that Cisco Systems has recognized Tom Sawyer Software's expertise in network topology. We believe this affirms Tom Sawyer Software's role as the defacto standard in network topology," said Brendan Madden, Chief Executive Officer of Tom Sawyer Software. "Tom Sawyer Software pioneered the graph layout component technology in the early 1990s. Today, many networking companies are building around our Microsoft and Java technologies. "
The Graph Editor Toolkit for Java can be used in applets and stand-alone applications. Because it adheres to the JavaBeans specification, it supports the wide range of commercially available Java Integrated Development Environment products. It is compatible with Sun's JDK 1.2 or later, and Swing.
Tom Sawyer Software is the leading provider of software and services that enable organizations to build highly scalable and flexible graph and data visualization and analysis applications. These applications are used to discover hidden patterns, complex relationships, and key trends in large and diverse datasets. Tom Sawyer Software serves clients with needs in link analysis; network topology; architectures and models; schematics and maps; and dependencies, flows, and processes. We help clients federate and integrate their data from multiple sources and build the graph and data visualization applications that are critical to analyzing and gaining insight into their data.View All Press Releases
