Tom Sawyer Software Releases Graph Editor Toolkit 2.4

Developers Can Now Easily Develop MFC Data Visualization Applications

Berkeley, CA, July 15, 1997—Tom Sawyer Software, the premier supplier of automated graph layout software, today announced the release of the Graph Editor Toolkit Version 2.4. The Graph Editor Toolkit is a display and editing component that allows Microsoft Windows developers to easily add a sophisticated diagramming layer into their applications. The Graph Editor Toolkit extends Tom Sawyer Software's renowned graph layout technology to Graphical User Interface (GUI) application programs that utilize the Microsoft Visual C++ development environment.

"The Graph Editor Toolkit revolutionizes the development of diagram-driven applications," said Michael Doorley, product manager of the Graph Editor Toolkit product family. "The level of extensibility within the Graph Editor Toolkit yields the power to develop robust applications with sophisticated graph layout ability efficiently."

Integrating the Graph Editor Toolkit into an application is straightforward. New and existing applications can use the extensive sample code provided to integrate their data model and user interface components with the Graph Editor Toolkit visualization libraries. The Graph Editor Toolkit meets requirements common across application domains, such as scrolling and zooming, double-buffered off-screen drawing for fast and flicker-free movement, handling of mouse events, support for pop-up menus and dialogs, and robust printing capabilities. Features such as toolbar and menu design, and application-specific drawing styles for nodes, edges, and labels are at the discretion of the application developer.

Industries such as object-oriented design, network management, CASE, and reengineering, can quickly develop diagram-centric applications producing intelligible, effective graphs for analysis and use. With a product unrivaled on the market, Tom Sawyer Software offers the only software that combines impressive layout technology with easy bundling capabilities. Using the Graph Editor Toolkit, the developer can reduce GUI application production cycles from years to weeks.

The Graph Editor Toolkit consists of a set of DLLs that are closely integrated with the Microsoft Foundation Class (MFC) Library through inheritance from the CView class and use of the document/view architecture. The Graph Editor Toolkit 2.4 supports MFC 4.x for Visual C++ 4.0, 4.2, and 5.0.

The Graph Editor Toolkit utilizes the graph model, drawing model and layout technology of the Graph Layout Toolkit, Tom Sawyer Software's flagship product. The Graph Layout Toolkit improves graph readability by providing a suite of layout algorithms each tailored to specific industries. With the Graph Layout Toolkit, developers can model application data as a graph and automatically produce high quality drawings. The Graph Editor Toolkit now bridges the gap between layout technology and GUI development. "There is no other graph editing product that has this level of layout automation or scalability," said Brendan Madden, president and CEO of Tom Sawyer Software.
