Tom Sawyer Software Releases Upgraded Perspectives Software

Tom Sawyer Perspectives, Version 2.0, Now Supports Web-based Thin Client Applications

Oakland, CA, July 8, 2010—Tom Sawyer Software, the leading provider of high-performance graph visualization, layout, and analysis solutions, announces the release of Tom Sawyer Perspectives, Version 2.0. Tom Sawyer Perspectives helps you build strategic IT applications that visually reveal dependencies and structures in data. The Tom Sawyer Perspectives Project Designer utilizes graphical application design methods to help you construct desktop and web applications in a fraction of the time usually required.

Tom Sawyer Perspectives provides an intuitive yet powerful graphical environment to configure round-trip data integration and create simultaneous and synchronized rule-driven views of data. The Project Designer is used to configure applications to automatically connect to data sources including databases, Microsoft Excel spreadsheets, plain text files, and XML files. You can build applications that enable you to view and manipulate data from different perspectives. The available views include drawings, inspectors, tables, and trees.

New Benefits

With technology advances in powerful web and application servers and browser-based thin clients, many organizations have adopted web-based architectures for their software systems. These thin client architectures provide unified viewing interfaces, machine independence, reduced security burden, and greatly eased IT administration with centralized data and application management. All of this leads to reduced administrative costs.

Tom Sawyer Perspectives, Version 2.0, enables you to design your applications once within the Project Designer and choose to deploy them to web and desktop applications.

The new web deployment architecture supports client side integration through simple HTML tags, JavaScript functions, or GWT libraries.

Both desktop and web deployment architectures offer many features including toolbars, tools, context menus, action items, and customizable rendering and editing features. Other useful features include an overview window, print setup, print preview, and multipage printing. Selection coordination is maintained automatically within your web and desktop applications and browser clients utilize modern AJAX methods to minimize overhead. In addition, this new release implements new drawing fitting technology where each layout style has new features to more optimally fit the drawing canvas or printed page.

Tom Sawyer Perspectives, Version 2.0, introduces synchronization between attribute values in the model and the corresponding graphical element properties. You now have the option to automatically update model attributes when you make changes in a drawing.

This release also brings dramatic improvements to layout quality and performance. All layout styles have been refined with increased speed and improved support for multi-threaded applications.
