Tom Sawyer Software Releases Graph Editor Toolkit 3.0

New Features Meet Customer Demands

Berkeley, CA, February 23, 1998—Tom Sawyer Software, the leading supplier of automated graph layout software, today announced the release of the Graph Editor Toolkit version 3.0. The Graph Editor Toolkit is a graphical front end that enables Microsoft Windows developers to add a sophisticated diagramming layer into their applications easily. The Graph Editor Toolkit 3.0 meets the needs of developers with new functionality such as an overview window, Unicode support, an object properties inspector, and edge bend editing.

"This release of the Graph Editor Toolkit expands upon its robust functionality," says Michael Doorley, product manager of the Graph Editor Toolkit product family. "The introduction of features such as the overview window and the object properties inspector reinforce the Graph Editor Toolkit's position as the finest graph editing product."

The Graph Editor Toolkit is an invaluable tool for developers seeking to enhance their application by incorporating graph display and layout abilities. It addresses requirements common across application domains, such as scrolling and zooming, double-buffered off-screen drawing for fast and flicker-free movement, handling of mouse events, support for pop-up menus and dialogs, and robust printing capabilities. Easily integrated into existing applications, the Graph Editor Toolkit provides developers with a superior and cost-effective alternative to developing this technology in-house.

Because the Graph Editor Toolkit is a framework designed for integration into applications, many user interface features are customizable. Industries such as software engineering, network management, CASE, database design, and reengineering have particular drawing conventions, and the Graph Editor Toolkit provides extensive sample code to demonstrate how it can be customized to meet specific industry requirements. Features such as toolbar and menu design, node icons, fonts, and line styles are at the discretion of the developer.

Many industries have the need to display complex relational information. Using the Graph Editor Toolkit, programmers can quickly develop diagram-centric applications producing intelligible, effective graph layouts for analysis and use. Developers can reduce GUI application production cycles from years to weeks by integrating the Graph Editor Toolkit into their applications.

The Graph Editor Toolkit consists of a set of DLLs that are closely integrated with the Microsoft Foundation Class (MFC) Library through inheritance from the CView class. The Graph Editor Toolkit 3.0 supports MFC 4.x for Visual C++ 4.0, 4.2, and 5.0.

The Graph Editor Toolkit utilizes the graph model, drawing model and layout technology of the Graph Layout Toolkit, Tom Sawyer Software's flagship product. The Graph Layout Toolkit improves graph readability by providing a suite of layout libraries each tailored to specific industries. With the Graph Layout Toolkit, developers can model application data as a graph and automatically produce high quality drawings. The Graph Editor Toolkit bridges the gap between layout technology and GUI development. "The Graph Editor Toolkit, with its level of layout sophistication and scalability, raises the standard to which graph editing products are held," said Brendan Madden, CEO of Tom Sawyer Software.
