Tom Sawyer Perspectives 13.7.0 Brings Greater Clarity and Control to Complex Graph Visualizations

Enhanced swimlane headers, improved disconnected node layout, and new per-node layout setting provide greater control over complex graph visualizations

PRESS RELEASE

BERKELEY, CALIFORNIA, USA, August 19, 2026—Tom Sawyer Software, the leader in graph and data visualization technology, today announced the release of Tom Sawyer Perspectives 13.7.0, delivering new graph visualization and layout enhancements that make working with complex data more flexible and intuitive.

Tom Sawyer Perspectives 13.7.0 introduces automatic swimlane header sizing to better accommodate header text, improved disconnected node layout for complex drawings with many connectors, and a new per-node layout setting that gives users greater control over node size. The release also refines precise shape clipping for concave nodes, introduces smoother default link navigation, modernizes the underlying technology foundation, and expands Java date/time support.

“Perspectives 13.7.0 focuses on giving users greater clarity and control when working with complex graph visualizations,” said Janet M. Six, PhD. and Senior Product Manager at Tom Sawyer Software. “From more readable swimlanes and improved disconnected node layouts to flexible node sizing and more precise rendering, these enhancements help users create visualizations that are easier to understand, navigate, and adapt to their data.”

New in this release:

  • Improved Swimlane Header Readability: Swimlane headers now automatically size based on their text. Headers can dynamically grow to accommodate longer multi-line labels, giving users more readable swimlane visualizations.

  • Improved Disconnected Node Layout: Disconnected node layouts now make better use of the available drawing canvas. Graph layout considers the canvas aspect ratio when arranging disconnected nodes, creating additional columns when appropriate and maintaining more consistent spacing between nodes.

  • New Fixed Node Size Setting: The Fix Node Size setting can now be applied to individual nodes in orthogonal and hierarchical layout styles. Users can control whether individual nodes maintain their size or grow as needed to accommodate connectors, providing greater flexibility when visualizing large, complex graphs.

  • More Precise Shape Clipping: Improved shape clipping for concave node UIs produces more accurate visual boundaries and cleaner rendering for customized node shapes.

  • Smoother Link Navigation: The default Link Navigator speed is now set to Low, providing a smoother, more controlled navigation experience when exploring connections in data.

  • Major Framework and UI Upgrades: Updates to Spring Framework 7.0.8, Spring Boot 4.1.0, MUI Material UI 9, and MUI X 9, deliver a more responsive user experience. The release also updates numerous third-party libraries to maintain a modern, current technology foundation.

  • Expanded Java Date/Time Support: The release expands support for Java date and time values, giving developers greater flexibility when working with temporal data. New capabilities include support for partial dates such as yyyy and yyyy-MM, converters from Instant to ZonedDateTime, LocalDateTime, LocalDate, and LocalTime, and expanded rendering, editing, and filtering support across additional date formats.

Collectively, these enhancements give users greater flexibility, clarity, and control when building and exploring complex visualizations while providing developers with a modern and adaptable technology foundation.
