Tom Sawyer Software Releases Tom Sawyer Perspectives, Version 7.6, .NET Edition

Version 7.6 Introduces New Tom Sawyer Maps, Support for the OpenLayers Map API, Neo4j Bolt Support, and Significant Performance Improvements

Berkeley, CA, March 22, 2017—Tom Sawyer Software, the premier provider of software for building high-performance graph and data visualization and analysis applications, announces the release of Tom Sawyer Perspectives, Version 7.6, .NET Edition.

This release introduces new Tom Sawyer Maps that combines the power of our existing rule-based drawing views and the OpenLayers map library. By combining drawings and maps, we provide an exciting new way to view your geospatial data and introduce features that are not available in either of these technologies separately.

Tom Sawyer Maps supports nesting, collapse and expand, drill-down and drill-up, labeling, connectors, automatic layout, animation, and complex node, edge, and connector UIs. This allows users to have capable, more-readable maps.

See data visualization examples of the new Tom Sawyer Maps functionality in the Commodity Flow, Crime Network, and Panama Papers demonstrations on the Solutions page of our website at The updated demonstrations showcase the brand-new Tom Sawyer Maps functionality that is exclusive to Tom Sawyer Perspectives.

In earlier releases, Tom Sawyer Perspectives provides a single map view that supports Google Maps technology. New in this release, support is provided for the OpenLayers map API that can be used with map providers including OpenStreetMap, Apple Maps, and Google Maps. OpenLayers is free, open source technology that is cross-browser compatible. It allows you to customize almost every aspect of your map and allows for maps to be hosted privately and locally. Tom Sawyer Maps utilizes OpenLayers for maps technology to take advantage of these capabilities. Tom Sawyer Perspectives users now have a choice of Tom Sawyer Maps, Google Maps, and OpenLayers Maps.

This release also introduces support for Neo4j 3.1 and Bolt, a new network protocol designed for high-performance access to the Neo4j database. The Tom Sawyer Perspectives' Neo4j integrator continues to support the REST protocol, but now users have a choice to use the high-performance Bolt option. Benefits of our Bolt support include:

Graph databases, especially Neo4j, have proven to be a great solution for connected data analysis. We are excited to introduce Bolt support to provide the fastest integration available today to integrate data from Neo4j.

This release introduces a number of performance and memory improvements in the graph layout system. Overall, the graph layout system is 9% faster than Tom Sawyer Perspectives, Release 7.5.1. Memory usage was dramatically improved as follows:

This release also includes improvements to incremental layout stability and support for dynamic table column and inspector names. With dynamic table column and inspector names, users are able to customize the names to suit their needs.
