Tom Sawyer Software Ships Graph Editor Toolkit for Java, Version 3.0

100% Pure JavaTM Diagram Management and Layout Engine

Berkeley, CA, March 1, 1999—Tom Sawyer Software, the leading vendor of graph layout and diagramming components, today announced availability of its Graph Editor Toolkit for JavaTM, version 3.0. The Graph Editor Toolkit for Java is a 100% Pure Java component that allows developers to quickly assemble custom vertical market diagram editors. Built with Swing, part of the Java Foundation Classes in the Java 2 platform, the Graph Editor Toolkit for Java uses the latest advances in Java technology.

The Graph Editor Toolkit for Java provides graphical editing utilities, diagram management, and automatic layout. With this functionality, diagrams are automatically arranged into clear, meaningful representations. Performance is optimized for large multi-level diagrams that display thousands of objects and relationships between them. The Graph Editor Toolkit for Java is used in applications such as enterprise resource planning, network and service level management, software analysis, logistics, and knowledge management systems.

The Graph Editor Toolkit for Java, version 3.0 includes a new set of functions for complex editing and automatic generation of diagrams. These include:

"The Graph Editor Toolkit is 100% Pure Java so developers can build platform-independent, web-based applications with advanced diagramming and graph layout functionality," said Brendan Madden, chief executive officer of Tom Sawyer Software. "With our graph model architecture, we deliver the fastest automatic graph layout available."

The Graph Editor Toolkit for Java can be used in applets and standalone applications. Because it adheres to the JavaBeans specification, it supports the wide range of commercially available Java Integrated Development Environment products. It is compatible with Sun's Java 2 Platform, and with JDK 1.1, when combined with Swing. It enables the deployment of applications on all standard platforms for all browsers, including Netscape Navigator and Microsoft Internet Explorer. Java 2's refined security for Java applets, RMI, and CORBA support can be utilized.

"With this latest release, we support Sun's Java 2 platform. We use the Java2D features for rendering graphical objects so our Graph Editor Toolkit for Java is not restricted by the limitations of the AWT," said Francis Chan, project manager at Tom Sawyer Software. "The enhanced security for applets, improved performance, and extensive API capabilities allow developers to build powerful pure Java applications."

The Graph Editor Toolkit for Java, version 3.0 is available now. Training and consulting services are available with the Graph Editor Toolkit for Java.
